What is the flower of Colchester?
The county flower of Essex is the common poppy, or Papaver rhoeas. This vivid red flower blooms from June to September and symbolises remembrance. Interestingly, it only grows in areas where the ground has been disturbed (which explains its prevalence on the battlefields of the First World War).
